I think you’re completely correct on several things in this article. For standing up, definitely, but also on the fact that we aren’t born homophobic. My mom recently told me that when she first had to give me the talk (I was about 5, a little precocious) she said:

“When two people love each other very much…”

and I said,

“Like a lady and a man, or two ladies, or two men?”

and she laughed. To the best of my knowledge I hadn’t met any gay couples at that point, and since our television was limited to PBS (mostly Sesame Street and the Frugal Gourmet) she says that my innocent question made her question things, too.
